I had the opportunity to see an old friend this weekend. My wife and I haven’t seen Frank Parise for a good 20 years. In a past life, we all worked together for a computer manufacturer up in the San Francisco Bay area. When we worked together, Frank used to share stories about his days as the drummer in a rock band that almost made it to the big time.
It turns out after all these years Frank is playing drums again with a Santana tribute band called Caravanserai. He called
to let me know that his band would be performing at the NAMM show here at the convention center in Anaheim. We not only got to see him play, I got to attend the NAMM show itself as well. I have always wanted to go to NAMM. I thoroughly enjoyed both the show and seeing Caravanseria perform. Frank, you guys rock hard!
So what does any of this have to do with websites? Well it turns out Frank has come up with a really cool invention. He calls it the WingKey and it is a special tool that you can use to adjust all of the fasteners that hold a drum kit together. Frank shared that in his years of setting up and playing racks full of all different kinds of percussion instruments, he could never find a practical tool to help keep everything tight. Being a clever guy, Frank invented a universal drum key that will tighten all the different fasteners in a drum kit or percussion rack, including the wingnuts ( hence the name WingKey.)
Frank has arranged for Gibraltar, a prominent manufacturer of percussion hardware, to handle manufacturing and distribution of the product but Frank’s original WingKey website has been retained. From the moment I laid eyes on the existing site, I can’t stop thinking about ways to make it more effective.
So, I am embarking on a study of the percussion equipment market in the hope that I will find ways to help spread the word about his cool little tool. If you happen to be a drummer please take a look at this site, and the tool itself . Any feedback you can give me in the comments section below will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill Fletcher
