Google Forecloses on Content Farms

On-line news source Search Engine Land reports that Google is foreclosing on “content farms.”   This should make things interesting.

Googles stated mission is and always has been to return the highest quality, most relevant results for whatever words you key in to the little box.   They utilize an algorithm to rate sites and pages and accomplish this goal.  As webmasters and SEO companies study the algorithm, they figure out ways  to make the sites they want come up higher in the rankings.

Sometimes the webmasters figure out ways to look like the most relevant site even when they are not.  Google constantly improves the algorithm in order to make it harder for a site to rank well when perhaps it should not.  The latest change in the algorithm will address certain types of websites play to the Google algorithm and rank well while featuring less than the most authoritative content.

With each change to the algorithm a slight tremor is felt in the on-line marketing community but then clever webmasters figure out new ways to try to put their sites back on top of the search page.

I refer you to the article in Search Engine Land for more details.

Update: SEO – Renu Medical Spa – Orange County

UPDATE 2/28/2011 –  The product page indexed shortly after I posted this.  That is a strong testament to the power of the blog.  Now we are waiting for the Botox Saddleback Valley page to index.

All in all, things are progressing swimmingly in our efforts to make the website for Renu Facial and Body Aesthetic Med Spa more visible in Google.  There is just one page that is giving me some trouble.  For some reason the Skin Care Products page will not update in Google’s  index along with the rest of the pages. I will have to put on my troubleshooting hat and figure this out.

By the way, if you are looking for gift ideas for a loved one, please check out their seasonal specials on skin care products.

SEO Success for RENU Medical Spa, San Juan Capistrano!

Last weekend we began a new SEO campaign for a local San Juan Capistrano Medical Spa.  Another web developer had told my client that their site had been banished to the sandbox by Google.    The easiest thing to “rank” for is usually your company name,  so  I searched Google for RENU Medical Spa, San Juan Capistrano and sure enough the website was nowhere to be found in the search results.

The other web developer had informed the client that the only solution was to develop a whole new site and spend couple thousand per month on aggressive promotion via SEO and social media.  After examining the html code, I proposed a test to see if that was true.   It looked like the site had quite a bit of extra code that could make it hard for Google “bots” to tell what the pages were about.  I also noticed the pages seemed to be missing a few elements that can help Google determine what pages are about.

I proposed that instead of jumping to the conclusion that they were being punished by Google, we simply clean up the code on the home page and see if it would reappear in the Google search results for the company name.  The operation was a success!  A Google search  for “Renu Medial Spa, San Juan Capistrano” after less than a week, returned the home page in the very first page of results.

For an investment of about a hundred dollars Web Handyman was able to prove that Google had not banished the site at all.  Google simply could not tell what the pages were about.  We will now move forward and clean up the rest of the pages.  Our next goal will be to optimize for the word BotoxSan Juan Capistrano.  I will keep you posted.

By the way, if you are looking for the best place for Botox treatments in San Juan Capistrano please consider calling Carri and Melissa at Renu Medical Spa in San Juan Capistrano.  You can reach them at (949) 487 3200.  Tell them the Web Handyman sent you.
