The 74% Percent Who Don’t Believe Social Media Matters.

I just read the results of a poll that asked people if they believe social media affects their buying decisions.   According to the results 74% of those polled feel that social media does not affect their  decisions to about what they buy.   I strongly suspect that of this 74%, the majority simply do not realize how much social media is beginning to shape their buying decisions.

Social Media Services - Orange County - Social CindyThe statistic of those who are affected, but don’t realize it, would certainly be much harder to measure.  I certainly can’t prove it either.  I base my assertion on  observations of the discussions on facebook, and twitter.  I  factor in the belief that 80 to 90% of shoppers today begin their buying decision for anything by jumping on a search engine and researching their purchase on-line.  I also fold in the fact that social media is having an ever larger impact on the search results delivered by the most popular search engines.

When you factor it all in,  it is hard for me to believe that 74% of shoppers are actually unaffected by what is happening on social media.  What is much easier to believe is that many people will fail to recognize or choose not  to admit that they are affected.  I understand this completely.  I for one, would never admit that I was ever swayed by TV commercials.

Many of the business owners I speak with are beginning to recognize that a consistent and persistent social media presence is necessary.  The challenge for many is how to get it done when they are already fully busy.  If you know that you need a solid social media presence but can’t find the time, you might check with my friends at Social-Cindy.comSocial-Cindy.com will work with your budget to design and maintain a best “bang for the buck” campaign for your business.

Helping Google Find Your New Content.

Search Engine Optimization - Orange CountyWeb Handyman strongly believes that one of the two things a business website must do to be successful, is to rank prominently in a search engine results page for the key terms that a prospective customer will actually key in to locate your product or service.   Web Handyman offers a number of services to help achieve this important goal.

When we work with a client to raise search engine visibility, quite often we create new pages to offer new and relevant content for specific keywords.  After all, this is what Google is really looking for.  You have no doubt heard the assertion that “Content is King.” We firmly believe this is true however recently it has become necessary to modify this statement slightly to read ” Quality content is King.”

So once you create new pages with quality content about a key term that is relevant to your product or service, all you need to do is wait for Google and the others to find it, right?   Well yes, as long as you are more patient than I am that is true.  I have found a number of ways to help speed up the process.

First, I always install an .xml site map when I begin work on a new project.  I update the site map each time I add or make changes to pages on the site.  For most clients this means at least once a week.  Adding any new pages to the site map is the first step in helping the search engines find your work.  It may still take the bots some time to get back to your site and read the site map.  This is when it comes in handy to maintain a blog with a little bit of authority.

I have performed experiments where I have placed the exact same content on a web page, and also in a blog post.  Inevitably the blog post shows up faster and higher than the web page.  If  bots are seeing your blog pages before your web pages, why not take advantage of this phenomenon and use a blog post to help your pages be discovered?

Let’s  try it  and see if it works.  I’ve just added several pages to the RenuMedicalSpa.net site offering information about Laser Skin Care treatments, and Laser Hair Removal treatments for new clients in San Clemente, CA.  If my theory holds true,   linking the keywords above to the new content page will decreased the length of time needed for the bots to see my new content.  My theory also holds that this post will rank for the keywords in the anchor text above, before the pages themselves will.

Let’s see if my theory holds water.  A couple of days from now go ahead and search for “Laser Skin Care treatments San Clemente” and look for this blog post, and the page at:

http://www.renumedicalspa.net/laser-treatment-san-clemente.htm

Or you can check back at this blog in a couple weeks.  I will be tracking this content page so I will  let you know when it pops up.   Before utilizing this technique,  it would often  take up to four weeks for a new page to index.  Let’s see if this method will offer a significant improvement.

Sincerely,
